The Château Royal de Blois is the ideal introduction to your visit of the Loire valley castles. In the main courtyard you can admire a variety of architectural styles ranging from the Middle Ages up to the 17 century. The castle, which was home to seven kings and ten queens of France, features fully furnished royal apartments and magnificent polychrome decor. It offers an interesting insight into the lifestyle of the French court during the Renaissance period.

The castle also houses a fine arts museum with permanent and temporary exhibitions. Another favourite is the Sound and Light show which is performed every evening between April and September, with English speaking performances on Wednesdays.

Located only 18 km from Blois, the Château de Chambord is a masterpiece of French Renaissance architecture. This superb castle, built under the reign of François 1 was used as a hunting lodge and remained mostly unfurnished. Take the splendid double staircase by Leonardo de Vinci to reach the upper levels and admire the turrets, numerous chimneys and breathtaking views over this vast domain.

Dating back to 1635, the Château de Cheverny with its splendid interior decoration and rich collection of furniture will enable you to discover the lifestyle of the French aristocracy during the 17th century. Visit the elegant chambers, the dining room, the nursery and many more, admire some of our treasures such as an authentic 17th century Gobelins tapestry or a superb Louis XIV chest of drawers in the Boulle style.

Since 1992 the Château de Chaumont sur Loire, which stands on beautifully landscaped grounds, has been hosting an international garden festival renowned amongst keen gardeners and garden designers. It runs from April to October.

The castle is also an important arts centre. Famous visiting artists including David Nash, Armin Schubert, Klaus Pinter and many more have left their mark on the domain and you can admire their works of art throughout your visit.

The castle is open throughout the year except on 25 December and 1 January. The restaurants on the domain are open from 24 April to 20 October.
